Women league clubs across the length and breadth of Ghana has petitioned the leadership of the Ghana Football Association to consider financing their activities as well as enjancing the fame at the grassroots level.
The Women clubs drawn from all the 10 Regional Football Associations say they are the bed rock of women Football in the country having produced players to the National teams.
“We are happy to see the support given to women’s soccer since the new administration took office. We thank GFA for the initiatives introduced to help the women’s soccer, thus individual players and clubs.” the clubs stated in a petition addressed to the Ghana FA.
“Our clubs are the “grassroots and development level” of Women’s soccer in the country; with over 75 Women Regional clubs affiliated to all the 10 RFAs in Ghana, we deem it necessary to present to you the challenges confronting Women’s Regional clubs.” They added.
The clubs maintains There are several practices that go on at the regional level, Some of which includes Scouting and identification of potential female footballers from within communities and remote areas, Developing raw talents of the girls into finished product making them potential players, Accommodating and feeding of these potential footballers, Absorbing almost all the cost of players’ education from Basic through to SHS and Tertiary levels.
They also added that the responsibilities of the regional clubs are Ensuring the welfare and Health needs of the players are met, Club owners also provide players with training equipment to ensure effective training from the day of discovery till they migrate to the National league level.
The clubs request the Executive council of the Association to support their members by Including Regional Women clubs in their budget for financial support as well as other packages for women soccer. Absorb officiating (referees) fees for the Regional Women’s Football Competitions. Providing footballs and other logistical support for Regional Women’s Clubs across the country before every league season. Invite corporate Ghana to support Regional Women’s Football Competitions. Set up a specific fund for Regional Women’s Football Ccommittee for organization of Regional Women’s Football Competitions, Workshops and Seminars for training of coaching staff, first Aiders, etc. Include Women Regional clubs administrators and coaches in FIFA/GFA administrative and coaching courses. Women Regional clubs should be considered/included in the FIFA COVID -19 Relief Fund allocated specifically for women soccer and subsequent supports from FIFA for women soccer. Women Regional clubs should be given the right of representation at congress to facilitate the interest of grassroots’ women soccer.
The clubs insist these interventions by the FA will go a long way to ease the burden on our clubs to enable as develop women soccer players at the grassroots’ level.
