Ex-Ghana star Abedi Pele has revealed he never forced himself to become the Black Stars captain as speculated.
Issues of Black Stars captaincy dates back during Pele’s era when it was believed there was a scuffle over captaincy arm band against Kwesi Appiah.
Pele is said to have an age-long “dispute” with Appiah due to captaincy issues during their time with the National team.
But the former UEFA Champions League winner has denied the said claim insisting there was no issue of that sort.
“There was nothing like me fighting over the (Black Stars captain’s arm) band,” Pele told GTV Sports plus.
“It never happened. People created a lot of stories around us but I prefer to leave these issues as they are.”
The former Olympique Marseille star reigned as Black Stars captain for eight years leading the team from 1991 to 1998 where he finally retired from the National team after the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Burkina Faso.
Black Stars captaincy issues have been in existence from the 90’s with the latest being that of Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew(son of Abedi Pele).
