North African powerhouse, Morocco have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their opening game of the 2021 African Cup of Nations against Ghana on Monday.
The Atlas Lions will be without four of their key players who have tested positive for Covid-19, for their opening Group C encounter with the Black Stars.
Morocco will open their AFCON 2021 campaign against four-time African Champions Ghana at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde in their Group C opening match.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Sunday, head coach Vahid Halilhodzic hinted that four players have been infected by the deadly virus.
Strikers Ryan Mmaee, Youssef En-Nesyri and Ayoub El Kaabi tested positive as well as midfielder Aymen Barkok and are likely to miss Monday’s crucial encounter.
The four players however, are expectes to return for Morocco’s second group game against minows Comoros next week.
Meanwhille, Ghana did not record a single positive test after the first round of PCR test were conducted at the tournament.
