AFCON 2021: England Legend Ian Wright Slams Critics

England and Arsenal Legend Ian Wright has has launched a scathing attack on the critics of the African Cup of Nations, tagging them as “racists”.
The 2021 edition of Africa’s flagship football competition is set to take place from January 9, to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
The tournament has come under intense criticism from a number of European clubs with many calling for its cancellation due to the surge in covid-19 cases globally.
But Ian Wright, 58, who is a pundit on BBC Sports and ITV has questioned the attitude of the Europeans towards the AFCON.
Reacting about the tournament during one of his punditry sessions, the former Arsenal man noted that the AFCON is the most disrespected tournament.
“Is there ever a tournament more disrespected than the AFCON?,” Wright questioned.
“The coverage is completely tinged with racism. We played our Euros across 10 countries in the middle of a pandemic & there’s no issue, but Cameroon, a single country, hosting a tournament is a problem?,” he added.
Despite the stiff opposition of from a number of European Clubs, the tournament is still going ahead as planned in Cameroon.
