Black Stars lethal striker Asamoah Gyan says his inability to win the AFCON trophy with the senior national team haunts him, and believes he can be able to lift the trophy before he retires.
Gyan who’s led the Black Stars to three AFCON Tournaments without winning maintains he harboured the ambition of winning the trophy when he joined the team in 2003, but having come so close on many occasions is a great worry.
“Personally, I thought winning the African Cup of Nations was possible, but since I joined the Black Stars in 2003 we have come close a couple of times without being able to win so it worries me still,” Gyan told Adom TV in an exclusive interview.
Asamoah Gyan who was elevated to the position of general Captain before the last tournament in Egypt says he believes winning the trophy is still a possibility even if it will take the next next generation.
“But we still hope that it’ll happen. Even if we are unable to win it, I pray the generation that comes after us will be able to win it,” the lethal striker added.
Asamoah Gyan has played in 7 AFCON tournaments since 2008 but hasn’t been able to win the trophy despite being un the final twice and a three times bronze medalist.
