Former Ghana Coach Avram Gant believes Thomas Partey’s arrival at Arsenal is a great addition to the Club.
Arsenal decided to break the bank by activating the player’s clause to sign him on a four-year contract from Spanish Club Atletico Madrid.
Mikel Arteta had made the Ghana International top on his wishlist throughout the summer transfer.
Atletico Madrid had refused to release the player after Arsenal initially quoted a price below their demands.
The Gunners who needed the 27-year-old badly decided to trigger the player’s release clause on transfer deadline day.
Grant worked with Partey at the Black Stars after handing the midfielder his debut call to the National team back in 2016, becoming a key part of the squad and featured for the team at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, his first Cup of Nations appearance coming under the former Chelsea manager.
The ex-West Ham United Coach outlines some of the qualities of the midfielder and what Arsenal turns to get in return for signing the player.
“It is good for any manager to have a player like that in his dressing room,” he told thesun.co.uk.
“I’d ask the Arsenal fans to give him a few weeks just to get used to English football, because it is still played differently in the Premier League to anywhere else, even if there are more foreign players now.
“But he will prove a good signing, perfect for what Mikel Arteta is trying to do.
“When you need him to hold the ball up, he can do that and he is a great fit for what Arteta is trying to make his team.
“If you ask him to play wide, he can but it’s not his position.
“He is a central midfielder, who will win the ball and play the right pass forward and can see the pitch, tactically disciplined as well and committed to his team.
“And he will make a big difference to Arsenal, just like he did at Atletico. He is a really good signing, just what they needed.”
Meanwhile Thomas Partey is currently with the Black Stars team in Turkey for the International friendly games against Mali and Qatar after which he will join Arsenal for the first time since his transfer.
