Asante Kotoko SC defender Ismail Abdul Ganiu has jumped to the defense of footballlers in the upper west region amidts doubts in the quality of players from the northern belt of the country.
The former Wa All Stars center back admitted to the abundance of talents in the region but that lack of opportunities and support is keeping them away from the national traffic.
Having rose through the ranks of Wa Anokye Stars before joining Wa All Stars, Ismail Abdul Abdul Ganiu has earned the reputation as one of the finest exports from the region.
Speaking on Home 99.7 FM, Ismail Abdul Ganiu called for collective support to avoid many talents going down the drain.
“There are plenty of footballers in this region who can make it to the top of the game. The talent has never been in doubt and will not even be in doubt. From the junior teams to the senior side, one can get many top talents here in the upper west region “, Ganiu said on Home 99.7 FM.
The lanky defender added,” the missing link is the support for these young talents to reach the top. The players usually do not get the needed support when they are leaving for the early stages of their career. Support is the mission aspect and once we get the support, trust me, Upper West footballers will soon take over”.
The young defensive pillar has been tipped to boss the Black Stars center back position in the not too distant future.
He has since scored two goals for Asante Kotoko SC en route to their NC Special Competition Tier 1 triumph.
