Asante Kotoko see Bofoakwa Tano and Black Stars striker Welbeck Takyi as the ideal replacement for Kwame Opoku, according to reports in the local media.
Kwame Opoku is expected to join Algerian club USM Alger in the coming days in a blockbuster deal reportedly worth €300,000 and Kotoko will need to sign a replacement.
Asante Kotoko were initially linked with King Faisal talisman, Kwame Peprah to replace departing Opoku, however, the Inshallah Boys who are battling relegation are unwilling to sell their goal-poacher whom they believe could save their season and Kotoko has now set their sights on Welbeck Takyi.
Takyi, 20, has been banging in the goals for the Real Hunters in the Ghana Division One League this season in Zone One and was rewarded with a call-up into the Black Stars team by CK Akonnor which has been reduced to 24 players ahead of AFCON qualifiers games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
The lanky and skilful attacker has scored nine goals with three assists to his name in the country’s second-tier league in eleven games for the Green and Whites.
The versatile forward has previously played for B.A United, Berekum Chelsea and RAK Club (United Arab Emirates).
