Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen could stay out for the next three Months after undergoing a knee surgery.
The goalkeeper has been playing through pains for the last couple of weeks with hopes of maintaining his fitness.
Ter Stegen underwent the knife after Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.
The German was in post when Barcelona were hammered 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
“The medical experts and I discussed to do this ‘clean-up’ as there were some irritations earlier this season,” the goalkeeper posted on twitter after his surgery.
“It’s a proactive intervention in order to prevent and prepare for the future.
“I will need some weeks to recover and to return to 100%. I’m calm and positive about the situation, I will come back soon.”
Barcelona is however unlikely to have the goalkeeper back before the start of the 2020/21 season.
The 28-year-old will also be missing his side’s pre-season exercise which begins in a couple of weeks time.
