BREAKING NEWS: Ghana bundled out of Total Women’s AFCON despite 1-1 stalemate with Cameroon

Ghanaians were served peppered meals on Friday afternoon after the Black Queens were bundled out of the ongoing Total Women’s AFCON 2018 following a 1-1 stalemate with the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon.

A needless tackle from goalkeeper Nana Ama Asantewaa resulted in a penalty for Cameroon which cancelled Ghana’s lead to leave the full time score 1-1.

Portia Boakye had effected a Beckham-like free kick to give Ghana the lead under 32 minutes but the bench warming goalkeeper who stepped in for regular Patricia Mantey due to injury, brought down Onguene with 4 minutes to the break, to hand Cameroon a penalty which was expertly converted by by Christine Marie.

The Black Queens who needed only a win to brighten their chances of qualifying bit their own fingers after failing to score again despite creating some few decent chances.

Despite Cameroon playing their poorest game of the tournament by not creating enough chances and also failing to defend well, Ghana failed to take advantage to grab a win from the jaws of the Lioness.

The Black Queens had themselves to blame by enduring too much pressure with the slogan ‘Host and Win’ amidst poor preparations for the tournament.

Ghana finished the group in third spot with 4 points after picking a win in their opener against Algeria, losing to Mali and drawing with Cameroon.

Cameroon, therefore, topped the group with 7 points followed by Mali with 6 points.

South Africa take on Zambia on Saturday with Nigeria taking on Equatorial Guinea in the last group games of Group B to determine the semi final pairings.
