The GFA President who doubles as the 1st Vice President of CAF handed himself to the police upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport around 12:30pm on Wednesday following a directive from Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Ghana’s President Nana Addo had, on Monday, ordered the CID to investigate Kwesi Nyantakyi on alleged offences including corruption and for using the office of the President fraudulently.
Nyantakyi who was not in the country had to cut his trip short in Saudi Arabia to return to Ghana and report himself to the CID headquarters in Accra to aid in their investigations.
The FIFA Council member immediately handed himself to the CID at the airport where the officials were on standby and after spending about 5 hours responding to queries and writing his statement, he has been acquited and has been asked to make himself available for further investigations.
The directive of the Ghana President follows a video exposé by undercover journalists Anas Armeyaw Anas which is alleged to have excerpts of the Ghana FA President using the name of Ghana’s president to influence investors to invest in the country.
According to Ghana’s Deputy Chief of Staff, John Jinapor, who announced the order of investigation by the President on Tuesday, the President Nana Akufo-Addo had watched portions of the investigative video and was unhappy with certian portions of it, hence ordering for the investigations.
