CAF CL: Asante Kotoko Vice-Captain Emmanuel Gyamfi Talks Tough Ahead Of FC Nouadhibou Clash

Asante Kotoko winger, Emmanuel Gyamfi has claimed that the Porcupines are well-equipped to overcome FC Nouadhibou in the CAF Champions League this evening.

Kotoko will face off with the Mauritanian champions in a game that will be played at the Stade Cheikha Bodiya in Nouakchott at 4:00 local time in the Champions League preliminary round first leg fixture.

While Gyamfi who is expected to captain the team in the absence of injured Felix Annan has insisted that he has not watched much of FC Nouadhbou since they are minnows in African football, the speedster is confident of further progression in the competition over their Mauritanian counterparts.

“Our aim after the new players joined the team was that we will surely go to Africa, so we (senior players) sat them down to take them through what it takes to play in the competition and fortunately, most of them have tasted the African football before so before joining us they already knew how big Kotoko is and they need to show up when the team is down,” Gyamfi revealed in an interview with the club’s media in Mauritania.

“The African campaign is not going to be easy, it’s totally different from the style of play in Ghana so we’ve motivated them and we’ve given them all that they need so that we will progress to the next round”

Speaking on the difference in playing in the Ghana premier league and Africa, Gyamfi said;

“There are a lot of difference because when you are playing in Africa, you don’t know the team you will play with but in the Ghana league, we mostly play ourselves but it is entirely different in Africa as you will meet a different team from a different country and you may not know the team and how they play and it makes it so difficult when playing them”

“Football is only played on the field and we are determined to make an impact. Most of our players are with the national teams with others also played to the international level so I strongly believe their recent impact in African football will not scare us because I know the players we are having, the qualities in them, I know we will overcome them.

“We are here for a win because a win boosts a team’s spirit and with the quality of players we have now, we will make it and make Ghana proud,” he ended.
