The 2018 CAF champions league final involving Esperance de Tunis and serial winners Al Ahly SC recorded one of the impressive patronages in the competition’s history with 1000s of fans queuing up for match day tickets hours ahead of kick off at the Stade de Rades in Tunisia.
The North African derby lived up to its pre-match build up with people from all walks of live trooping to the stadium earlier in the morning ahead of return leg in the continent’s most decorated club game with a total of 60000 fans witnessing the game inside the stadium.
Esperance came back from the dead to nail Ahly SC 3-0 in the second leg to emerge winners on a 4-3 aggregate but the real achievement on the African terrain was the love and affection shown by the African fans towards the CAF Champions league.
Nice Badry’s 86th minute strike won the game for the host was welcome inside the noisy stadium like an explosive with almost 60,000 fans cheering at the top of their voices.
The ceremony was also graced by FIFA president Gianni Infantino with other high ranking football personalities joining the goal feast as well.
