Chelsea New Manager Tuchel Explains Decision To Bench Mount Against Wolves, Speaks Highly Of Gilmour

New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to drop Mason Mount for their Premier League clash against Wolves.

The midfielder had started all of the last 13 Premier League games under Frank Lampard and is arguably the club’s most in-form player, but was forced to settle for a place on the bench.

He was introduced in the second half and had an immediate impact, with Tuchel at pains to explain his decision.

In his first press conference as Chelsea manager on Thursday, the German however clarified his decision, saying he chose experience during a difficult time.

“I like what I have seen from Mason so far, his personality is amazing, he is such a nice guy, such a competitive guy, with such a lot of talent,” the German said at his press conference.

“Most importantly, every game I have watched so far he has left his heart on the pitch, he cares for Chelsea 100 percent, he gives 100 percent every time he plays, and this is the best basis for big development,”

“I’m very happy to have him around and I will not stop pushing him, I will not stop guiding him and I will not stop trusting him. There is nothing to worry about,”

Tuchel also sought to clarify Billy Gilmour’s place in the team, insisting he does not expect to see him leave on loan as speculated.

“For Billy, I have a good impression. He is a very strategic guy, with a very high level of game understanding, very good in the first contact, very clever in positioning.

“We will see if he has the physical level to compete in the centre of the field in the most physical league in the world, but he is super quick with his feet, super-fast with his decision making, and very good in positioning like I said.

“For me we have 21, 22 outfield players available to play in three competitions. There is absolutely no need to get rid of players,”

Chelsea will next host Burnley, and Tuchel will be hoping he picks his first win at his new club.
