Ghana cruised to a convincing 3-1 win over São Tomé and Principe in their final group C game of the ongoing 2022 AFCON Qualifiers on Sunday.

Nicholas Opoku, Jordan Ayew and Baba Rahman goals were enough for the Black Stars to pick up all three maximum points to finish top of Group C.

After the expiration of Appiah’s contract,  the Ghana Football Association decided not to renew his contract.

However, CK Akonnor who was an assistant coach to Kwasi Appiah was appointed to replace him.

Speaking to the media at the post match interview, coach Akonnor praised Appiah who started the qualifiers and is of the view his outstanding performance played a vital role in securing qualification at the end.

“I would like to first of all thank my former boss Kwasi Appiah who started the qualifiers, winning two games.”

“He’s the reason why we just needed to win one and draw to make it and I want to acknowledge him for everything” he said.

Ghana has qualified for a record ninth straight Africa Cup of Nations – finishing first in Group C with 13 points from 6 games, one point ahead of Sudan who beat South Africa 2-0 in Khartoum to finish behind Ghana with 12 points.
