10-man Footconnect FC put up a spirited performance to beat Money-spending Banana-Inn FC in the grand final of the Accra West District Division Three Middle league.
The win ensure that Footconnect secure a place in next season’s Greater Accra Regional division two league.
The Accra West District Division Three Middle league, originally scheduled for last Sunday at the Fadama Astro Turf was marred by a series of controversies which forced the game to be abrupted in the 68th minute.
The match was going on as planned when a section of supporters believed to be followers of Banana-Inn FC tampered with the floodlight with their side trailing 2-0.
Attempts to fix the light proved futile, forcing the match officials to postpone the remaining 22 minutes of the encounter to Monday at the same venue.
The controversies surrounding the match continued on Monday when the two teams returned to honour the fixture. A group of boys had taking over the facility, forcing the match officials to suspend the match indefinitely.
However, after a series of consultations between the Accra West District Football Association and the parties involved, the game was rescheduled for Wednesday at the La MacDan Park.
Despite the back and forth, Footconnect left no stone unturned in their quest to qualify for the Regional league.
They began the match in high spirit, scoring just two minute after the resumption to increase their lead to 3-0.
Banana-Inn FC got a goal back with a quarter of an hour still to play. That gave them a glimmer of hope.
However, their hopes were completely dashed when they missed two penalties awarded them within a space of three minutes and with Footconect a man down.
The two penalty misses ensured that Footconect kept strong hold of their 3-1 advantage to complete the match as Victors.
