Chelsea have announced the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from French Club Rennes.
The Senegalese completes a move worth 20million pounds to the English Premier League as Frank Lampard looks forward to end his goalkeeping crises.
First choice goalkeeper Kepa Arizabalaga has received lots of bashing from fans due to his inconsistent form since joining the Club, a reason the Club have opted to go in for 28-year-old Mendy.
‘I am so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to get started,” Mendy said after his signing.
The move for the former France Youth goalkeeper intensified after Kapa’s howler in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia explained the reason behind Mendy’s arrival at the Club.
“As soon as Petr Cech and our technical team identified Edouard as the most suitable goalkeeper to complement our existing group, there was only one player we wanted to bring in. Edouard arrives following a season of real success with Rennes, he is ambitious for more, and we welcome him to our club.’
He joins Chelsea as the most expensive goalkeeper to have moved from the French Ligue I.
