Portugal stunned Hungary 3-0 in their first match of the Euro 2020 Group F tie played on Tuesday evening.
Hungary held out for so long but in the end, it’s an emphatic victory for Portugal. Ronaldo’s extraordinary scoring feats continued as he grabbed a brace with Raphaël Guerreiro grabbing the opener.
Portugal started with intention of taking the lead early in the game as Pepe released former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo through on goal. The flag stayed down as Ronaldo drove a shot towards the near post which drew Gulacsi into another decent save.
The flag eventually goes up but the Hungarian keeper wasn’t to know that.
In the 26th minute, there was a penalty appeal from Portugal after Bernardo Silva went down following a well-timed challenge by Orban but the referee ignored it.
In the 80th minute, Hungary took the lead through Schon, finishing well past Rui Patricio at his near post but it didn’t count as the flag went up.
Four minutes later, Portugal took the lead, making a breakthrough after frustrations. Rafa’s cut-back found Guerreiro and the full-back’s low effort hit the back of the net via a big deflection.
The holders got a penalty a minute later after Orban pulled back Rafa and the referee pointed for a spot. Ronaldo stepped up and slammed home the spot-kick. It was international goal number 105 for the 36-year-old and it was never in doubt! He’s mobbed by his teammates.
In the stoppage time, Ronaldo netted a third of the game, his second of the night and 106th goal in Portugal shirt.
