Kotoko made the first attempt at goal when Augustine Okrah tried to get his head on a cross from William Opoku Mensah.
William Opoku Mensah was unlucky to have his excellent effort go wide after beating his marker before taking a curler targeted at the far post as Kotoko kept dominating play. Kwame Baah was firm in his post to prevent Elmina Sharks attacker Stephen Owusu from finding the back of the net in the 16th minute.
Elmina Sharks gradually warmed themselves into the game. Benjamin Arthur forced Kotoko goalkeeper Kwame Baah to pull a wonderful save in the 29th minute with a thunderbolt effort.
Kotoko missed a huge chance to get into the lead in the 31st minute failing to find the back of the net from a goal-bound opportunity. Kotoko was forced into making a substitution by pulling off Christopher Nettey who suffered an injury for Augustine Sefah
Kotoko Coach Maxwell Konadu was once again forced to make yet another substitution just after recess as he brought on Ismail Abdul Ganiyu for injured Habib Mohammed.
The Reds began the second half much better as they saw more of the ball pinning Sharks into their own half.
Benjamin Bernard Boateng missed the best chance for Elmina Sharks by letting Kotoko off the hook after failing to connect a pass from Stephen Owusu.
Songne Yacouba nearly scored from a screamer with his first touch just after coming off the bench to replace Augustine Okrah but for a wonderful save from Sharks goalkeeper Lord Bawa.
Elmina Sharks Coach Yaw Acheampong introduced Isaac Donkor for Richard Mpong in the 62nd minute to shelf off the pressure from Kotoko.
Goalkeeper Kwame Baah came to the rescue of Kotoko in the 75th minute when he made a spectacular stop to prevent Elmina Sharks attacker Benjamin Bernard Boateng in a one-on-one situation.
Both teams could not utilize the opportunities that came their way splitting points.
