Spokesperson for Hearts of Oak Supporters Sunsum Paa Kofi has disclosed that the teaming fans of the Phobia family are ready to support Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks if they clash with Asante Kotoko in the round of 16.
Chairman of Kariobangi Sharks FC Robert Maoga in an interview with FOX FM called on Hearts of Oak supporters to rally behind his side to beat Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederations Cup, and the National Chapters Council (NCC) spokesperson, Paa Kofi Sunsum has officially endorsed the call.
Speaking to Kumasi based radio station FOX FM on Thursday, Robert Maoga ended his interview with what supporters of Kotoko fans wouldn’t find tasty.
He said, “we would like to tell the fans of Hearts of Oak to come and support us for victory (against Kotoko)”, and despite sounding on the lighter note, fans of the Accra based club have embraced the call to demonstrate the level of rivalry between the two great clubs in Ghana football.
In response to Maoga’s call, Paa Kofi Sunsum, spokesperson for the National Chapters Committee of Hearts of Oak (NCC) has called on his charges to organize themselves in a magnified spirit to throw their massive support behind the Kenyan side as a means of revenge on their arch rivals, citing previous instances where group of persons believed to be fans of Kotoko teamed up to support Esperance to eliminate the Phobians from a continental competition.
“In Ghana here between Hearts and Kotoko I’m not sure any of the supporters wish one side good in anything “, Paa Kofi begun, speaking to FOX FM.
“It has happened before where Kotoko supporters supported Zamalek (of Egypt) in Zamalek jerseys, made banners against us in Kumasi but we won to shame them.
“In about three-four years ago Hearts of Oak played a Confederations Cup match against Esperance (of Tunisia) and Kotoko supporters wore Esperance jerseys, printed banners with Harrison Afful as the poster boy and came to support against us at the Accra Sports Stadium and Esperance eliminated us nicely, and that thing is still fresh in the minds of Hearts of Oak supporters, so in any competition Kotoko plays we will also rise against them”, Sunsum vowed.
Asked whether their support for Kariobangi Sharks will be in spiritual or physical form, Paa Kofi says he will personally do it physically but anyone who wishes to do it spiritually is highly permitted to go ahead.
“Those who can do it spiritually are permitted. I will personally do it physically but any supporter who is ready to help spiritually is permitted because if you want to oppose, you have to do it nicely so we will do it very nicely”, he assured.
Judging from the fact that Kotoko’s progress into the group stages of the Confederations Cup would win points for Ghana to restore the country’s lost slots, one would expect all Ghanaians to support the Porcupine Warriors to go higher, but Paa Kofi wishes otherwise.
“Very much, we would be extremely happy, like what do you expect, even Kotoko should know that that’s how it should be”, Paa Kofi exclaimed when asked whether Hearts fans will wish Kotoko kicked out by Kariobangi Sharks.
For the records, Accra Hearts of Oak as a club have assured Kotoko of their support aside their rivalry, when the Club’s Communications Director Kwame Opare Addo, told FOX FM they “won’t betray Kotoko” against any foreign club in their quest to succeed in the continental campaign.
Kariobangi Sharks will play against Asante Kotoko in the 1/16 stage of the Confederations Cup if they qualify over Arta Solar FC of Djibouti in their second leg fixture, where the Sharks currently lead 6-1 on aggregate after the first leg.
