Hearts of Oak Legend Lawrence Adjah Tetteh Revels In CAF Confederation Cup Triumph 14 Years After Lifting Trophy

Iconic Hearts of Oak midfielder Lawrence Adjah Tetteh has revealed his affection for his teammates that won the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation in 2005 after a marathon 17 penalty shootouts in Kumasi.

The inspirational attacking midfielder inked his name into the history books of the Oak Tree after cancelling out a beautiful strike from Charles Asampong Taylor for the Reds.

A 1-1 first leg results at the then Ohene Djan stadium titled the tie in favour of Asante Kotoko with the away goal rule looming in the horizon.

The woes of Accra Hearts of Oak and their teaming supporters were then compounded when former player, Charles Asampong Taylor shook the back of the net to send the stadium into frenzy mood.

Adjah Tetteh however pulled parity for the Oak Tree with 9 minutes to regulation to take the game into the lottery of penalty shootouts.

Hearts of Oak kept their nerve and stole the media traffic across the African continent in a 9-8 victory.

Some 14 years after the triumph, Adjah Tetteh explained why he and his colleagues feasted on the 999 tag associated with them.

The game was played on January 9, 2005 whiles Adjah Tetteh’s number 9 jersey saw him scoring the equalizer with 9 minutes to regulation time. 999!

“We the 64 battalions or the virgin cup squad thank the Good lord today. It was on this day January 9, 2005 when we beat Kotoko 8-7 after a 1-1 draw of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“The 999! We equalized on the 81st minutes, 9 minutes to the end of the game by Adjah Tetteh wearing jersey number 9 and Donkor played the 9th penalty kick”, Adjah Tetteh revealed.
