Its a lie, Government doesn’t spend on all National teams – Ghana FA

The Ghana Football Association continues to defend its decision of allocating part of the FIFA COVID-19 relief funds to the Various National Football teams insisting they also fund the activities of the National teams.

The FA has come under serious media attack for allocating over 18% of the FIFA COVID-19 relief funds to the 10 national teams, but communication director for the Football Association Mr Henry Asante Twum disagrees with media reports suggesting only the Government of Ghana spends on the National teams.

“The Black Stars for instance, When
C. K Akonnor was appointed as coach of the Black stars, he spent three weeks in Europe scouting and engaging Players, not even a Pesewa of that was catered for by Government, the FA paid for every single cost from his tickets, feeding etc” Mr Henry Asante Twum told Starr FM.

He maintains the  FA has spents huge sums of monies for the various National teams without the involvement of Government citing a recent U17 camping in Cape Coast.

“Before Covid -19 the National-17 team were camped for nine weeks in Cape Coast, all the cost were catered for by the Ghana FA. So its not factually correct that Government takes care of all cost on National teams. The GFA has and continues to spend on our national teams.”

The FA chief communicationist expressed as lies media commentaries suggesting the FA erred in allocating the funds to the National teams

“I have heard a lot from colleague journalist that Government takes care of National teams and so there is no need for the Provision by the GFA for the National teams, that is a lie! The FA spends a lot on National teams.”.

The Ghana FA’s executive council in disbursement of the 1.8 million dollars grant from FIFA and CAF has allocated portions to the Various National teams sparking widespread controversy and agitation from Clubs and other bodies of the Association
