Kotoko, AshGold to play in Africa after Ghana Football season cancellation

Kotoko and Ashanti Gold will represent Ghana in next year’s CAF Inter-Club competitions.

The decision comes after the executive council of the Ghana FA decided to cancel the 2019/20 Ghana Football season.

Per relevant provisions of the CAF inter-club football Regulations, Kotoko and Ashanti Gold remain eligible to represent Ghana in Africa as they still hold the titles as winners of the NC Special Competition.

“The Executive Council also decided that per the relevant provisions of the CAF inter-club football Regulations, Asante Kotoko SC and AshGold SC will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup respectively,” a section of the Ghana FA statement reads.

“The Executive Council will meet on Thursday, July 9, 2020 to discuss all issues relating to the next football season and Congress.

“The GFA will continue its engagement with all sponsors and all stakeholders following the cancellation of the season.”

Kotoko and Ashanti Gold were Ghana’s representatives in the yet to be completed CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup where they both exited at the knockout stages.

The situation also leaves the domestic top-flight season uncompleted for the past three seasons.
