Communications Director for Asante Kotoko SC, Moses Antwi Benefo, has expressed his surprise following the GFA demand for better reasons before the approval of the club’s proposed change of home venue.
Kotoko last month requested a change of their home venue from Accra Sports Stadium to Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.
Due to renovation works ongoing at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Porcupines had to play all their home matches in Accra since last season. Together with Kotoko, four Premier League clubs also use the venue to host away teams.
Among these clubs are Inter Allies, Legon Cities, as well as Hearts of Oak, and Great Olympics who are original users of the stadium for a long time now.
The FA in a press release yesterday, December 2, demanded that the Reds make their reasons well known before the request would be granted.
Speaking on Asempa FM, PJ Mosey as he is known in the media circles revealed that he is surprised the GFA could not notice the apparent reasons.
“It is difficult to wrap your head around the release by the FA.” he told Asempa FM
“The Aliu Mahama Stadium is our second choice for CAF Competitions and it has been inspected by CAF’s club licensing committee. Therefore, if the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium can host continental games then how much more our league?”
“Considering the motor of the FA president, Igniting Passion and Creating Wealth for all; the argument is, now we seem to be on course with the passion but with the wealth, it seems to be centered in Accra. Therefore we need to expatiate on the FA president’s viewpoint. ” He added
In the meantime, the one-time CAF Champions League winners will play FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania in the second leg of the CAF Champions League prelims on Saturday in Accra.
