Legon Cities Sack Coach Goran Barjaktarević After Two Premier League Games

Ghana premier league side Legon Cities have sacked Head Coach Goran Barjaktarević after a turbulent start to the two-week-old 2020/21 season.

Sources say the coach fell out of favour with his employers even before the start of the League and last night’s 3-0 loss to Great Olympics triggered his dismissal.

The Bosnian tactician took over the club from former Black Stars defender John Painstil who didn’t meet the league’s criteria of having a CAF License A certificate 11 months ago.

During Barjaktarevic’s regime as head coach, the Royals won just three games, all of which came in the truncated 2019/2020 season where his side finished 14th.

However, their poor form continue in the 2020/2021 season having played two games, losing one at home and an away defeat to Great Olympics despite their heavy investment in players including the acquisition of former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, former Kotoko youngster Mathew Anim Cudjoe and Elvis Opoku from Aduana Stars.

Barjaktarević, however, becomes the first Ghana premier league manager to be sacked this season.

The defeat against Olympics leaves the capital-based side on the 15th position after two games.

Legon Cities’ next travel to the Akoon Park in Tarkwa to face Medeama SC in matchweek 3 of the premier league next weekend.
