Manchester United had to do it the hard way but at last, they have their first home win of the season.
The first half had some bit of action, with West Brom goalkeeper being called into action several times.
At one point, it looked as though center-back Harry Maguire was playing as a central midfielder, due to the way the home side was pressing.
There were no goals, however.
The second half started on a high tempo, with West Brom putting United on the back foot, and this paid off after Fernandes seemed to have tackled Gallagher in the box.
The decision was however changed after the referee went on to review the action on his pitchside monitor, something which angered the visitors, especially when the Red Devils were awarded a spot-kick just a minute later for a handball.
Bruno Fernandes stepped up but his effort was saved by Sam Johnstone, who was judged to have been off his line, and the kick had to be retaken.
The Portugal international then buried his second take, to give Ole Gunnar’s men the lead.
There were more good chances in the game for the Baggies, but the same can’t be said for the home side, who seemed to defend more and try to kill the game with setpieces.
The Red Devils had to do dig deep for the win and this time around, substitutes Donny van De Beek and Edinson Cavani had close to no say in the proceedings.
With this win, the Red Devils move to the top half of the log, sitting 9th with 13 points, while the Baggies are 18th with 3 points from their first nine matches.
