Accra Great Olympics labored to a 1-0 win against a more compact Bechem United side at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League week 30 clash.
Bechem United Scared their host when Referee Eso Doh Morrisson awarded them a 3rd minute penalty, but captain Moro Salifu hit his kick straight to the hands of Goalkeeper Stephen Kweku, giving the host some relief into the rest of the game.
The rest of the firs half was more boring as Bechem United approached the game with a slow build up, and keeping more of their men deep in defence.
Playing for the first time at the Accra Stadium without inspirational captain Gladson Awako, Coach Annor Walker’s men failed to creat any meaningful opportunity for their attackers with all the through balls ending in the hands of the away side.
Bechem United afforded the luxury of starting attack from defence, as Great Olympics themselves played very cautiously.
Coach Annor Walker intensified his style of play, pushing more men upfront with James Akaminko and Kwabena Boateng offering Maxwell Abbey more space in front of goal.
With only 10 minutes of play in the second half, Samuel Ashie lifted his play through the flanks, with his skillful display that beat his markers, with Maxwell lurking around the goal area, Samuel Ashie delivered a cross that the defence of Bechem did not clear at first hand, Maxwell intercepted the aerial ball, did a quick turn to deliver a bullet that beat goalkeeper Prince Asempa for the only goal of the game
That was all for the day as the rest of the game became more physical with both sides kicking each other on thr field of play.
Great Olympics rise to third on the league log following the win with 48 points.
