MATCH REPORT: Berekum Chelsea 1-1 Elmina Sharks – Nine men Sharks good enough to hold Berekum Chelsea in Kumasi

6989Elmina Sharks defied all odds at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by picking a point with nine men against Berekum Chelsea in their third week outstanding fixture in the Ghana Premier League.

Felix Addo cancelled out Stephen Amankona’s first half goal to seal a famous 1-1 stalemate game in this year’s Premier League.

Berekum Chelsea played the first session of the game with a counter attacking approach which saw them getting the first goal before the first quarter of the game on the 10th minute with Elmina Sharks possessing the ball and trying to break down the defence of Chelsea but had no way through the walls of their opponent.

Berekum Chelsea remained resolute in their half to repel all the attacking threats of Elmina Sharks who were not so threatening in the final third in the first half.

Berekum Chelsea had flurry of chances to have ended the first half with more than three goals but Latif Salifu and Stephen Amankona lossily sent all up begging to leave the first half with only a goal registered.

In the second half, both sides tried attacking to get another goal on their side with Berekum Chelsea trying to increase the tally whiles Elmina Sharks wanted the equalizer which gave game an early lifeline in the second half.

The game became robust with players flashing out tackles which saw midfielder Edward Ebo Mends receiving the second yellow card of the game after a tackle on Collins Ameyaw on the 60th minutes.

Substitute Tanko Mohammed who came on for Ofoe Ofotsu was involved in the equalizer by Felix Addo on the 69th minutes but attracted a straight red card after elbowing defender Wahab Ahadzie.

Elmina Sharks had to play the reminder of the minutes with nine men but dominated as if they were playing with twelve men and deservedly won a point in the tie.
