MATCH REPORT: Cameroon 1-1 Ghana – Indomitable Lioness hinder hosts from semifinal dreams

Host nation Ghana were kicked out of the Total Women’s AFCON 2018 after a 1-1 stalemate with tournament hopefuls Cameroon at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Black Queens needed nothing but a win to enhance their chances of qualifying to the semi final stage of the competition but a wicked howler by Ghana goalie Nana Ama gave Cameroon a penalty to equalize Ghana’s lead.

Portia Boakye broke the deadlock with a stupendous free kinck under 32 minutes but Christine Manie flawlessly sent the Ghana goalie to a different direction from the spot to restore parity after the Ghana goalie needlessly brought down the Cameroonian striker, three minutes to the break.

Ghana started off in the same fashion as they did in the first half and applied a lot of pressure on the Cameroonians but the host had no goal to show.

The host appealed for the penalty after Elizabeth Addo collided with Ndom but the referee thought otherwise.

Cameroon join by Mali as the two qualify from Group A after the Malians also beat Algeria 3-2 in the other game in Cape Coast.
