Accra Hearts of Oak SC suffered another damning defeat in the 2019/20 GPL season with a late penalty decision at home to Asante Kotoko SC. The Phobians managed to pull parity in the second half after Justice Blay had opened the scoring for the visitors only for Naby Keita to snatch three points with the last kick of the game.
Maxwell Konadu’s men enjoyed a dream start to the classico and duly shot into the lead just 11 minutes into the game. Justice Blay added goal scoring prowess to his ball winning qualities and gave the visitors a perfect start to the game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
An Esso led for the Phobian roared back into the game and pinned their visitors into a defensive unit but could not convert their chances in the impressive spell.
The two teams headed into recess with the game pegged at 0-1 thanks to that lone strike from Justice Blay.
Hearts of Oak SC returned from the dugout with more hunger and motivation and pulled parity on the 67th minute through their star man, Joseph Esso. The brilliant Kordzi played his part in the build as the host nullified their deficit in grand style.
With the wind blowing against them , Maxwell Konadu unleashed Mathew Cudjoe to boost their attacking department and it paid off in perfection. The teen prodigy almost stole the three points but for wicked save from Richard Attah.
The visitors then chose the most painful medium to snatch the win, leaving it very very late into added time to dispatch a spot kick and deflate the egos of the host.
Naby Laye Keita made light work of the close to the 40K fans inside the stadium with a composed finish to earn three points for Asante Kotoko SC.
The win is Asante Kotoko SC second straight win in Accra while Hearts of Oak have now lost two home games after just three round of matches in the season.
