Mariano Barreto has picked up his first defeat as Kotoko coach following the 2-1 defeat at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Dominant Kotoko got a deserving lead with Emmanuel Gyamfi connecting Imoro Ibrahim’s sublime cross with a header into the right bottom corner.

The home side then took their foot off the gas as Medeama began to grow in the game, exhibiting some attacking patterns to fetch for the equaliser.

Eventually, Poku Agyemang came through on the half an hour mark with a near-perfect drilled shot to restore parity for the Yellow and Mauves.

Agyemang nearly gave the away side the lead but his header from close range could not find its way into the net.

Richard Boadu finally completed the come back before the break with a deflected shot on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, Kotoko chased the game while Medeama remained resolute at the back protecting the lead.

The Reds continued to dominate but could not create openings in the away sides defence.

Substitute Godfred Asiamah came close to levelling things with a shot from the edge of the box but goalkeeper Frank Boateng palmed the ball as it hits the upright before going out for a corner.

After six additional minutes, Medeama walked away with the three points and moved to the top of the table with 36 points.

Asante Kotoko on the other hand is positioned 3rd with 35 points.
