Maxwell Konadu’s Managerial Nous Or Edward Odoom’s Ressurgent Hearts Of Oak SC

Football fans in Ghana are set to witness another classic game at the Accra Sports Stadium when Ghana’s most celebrated football clubs take to the pitch on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

The two teams head into the weekend’s clash with more than just three points at stake as they seek to inflict damning defeat on each in the title race. Asante Kotoko SC will be led on the technical bench by Maxwell Kwabena Konadu whiles Edward Odoom will unleash his 30-year managerial career as the head coach of the Phobians.

With a premier league winner under his name as a coach, Maxwell Konadu heads to the nation’s capital with rich CV as a trainer thanks to his association with the various national teams. The former Wa All Stars FC Manager left his mark at the Wa Malik Jabir Park before heading to Accra for the 2011/12 GPL season. The one time Asante Kotoko SC star forward announced his arrival in Kumasi with the league crown and just one defeat under his name. His managerial nous was never in doubt and manifested in the title winning season for the Porcupine Warriors.

A lengthy spell with the various national teams saw Maxwell Konadu playing in three different finals at the Continental level with Black Stars including bakc to back appearance at the WAFU finals. Lady luck however eluded him in the 2019 edition when he lost painfully in another shootouts. In short, the managerial CV of Konadu is virtually as lengthy as the entire managers in the league put together.

A return to club saw Konadu inflicting a 2-1 defeat on his arch rivals in the Presidential Cup staged at the Accra Sports Stadium. A late header from Naby Keita was enough for the Reds in the three goal threat. The returning tactician then earned back to back wins over Eleven Wonders FC and Legon Cities FC in his opening League matches of the season.

From his preferred 4-2-3-1 to the more flexible 4-3-3 with Justice Blay flanked by Mudasiru Salifu and Collins Ameyaw. The dynamism at the center of the pitch allowed Maxwell to unleash Gyamfi and Antwi as defensive players. The varied formations will be needed at the Accra Sports Stadium if Maxwell Konadu is to return to Kumasi with three points.

Hailed as the redeemer by many Phobians, Edward Odoom is set for his first litmus as a manager. Seven points from three League matches have suddenly raised hope after a dreadful start to their campaign. Edward Odoom’s honeymoon spell is certainly hanging on the wrong end of the pendulum with enormous pressure from the Red Army.

The timely return of Emmanuel Nettey, Fredrick Ansah Botchway and Nurudeen Aziz has suddenly raised hopes within the ranks of the Oak family. Their sudden free flow after nightmare start has left many hailing his managerial prowess ahead of the blockbuster clash in Accra.

Raddy Ovouka has succeeded in sealing a plCe in the starting eleven of the Phobians thanks to his versatility at the back. His return to the back four has so far yielded results for the Phobians. Kofi Kordzi and Obeng Junior are set to flank Joseph Esso in the trident attack for the visit of the Red army.

With both sides boasting of quality on the pitch, mangerial prowess will be needed to pick the maximum points on Sunday. Will it be Maxwell Konadu and the Red Army or the Phobian party under Edward Odoom?
