‘Player recruitment is the major problem of Kotoko’s poor performance not Maxwell Konadu’ – Jerome Otchere

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko parted ways with coach Maxwell Konadu on Friday.

The Porcupine Warriors have endured a struggling performance since the commencement of the 2020/2021 football season, having played five matches, winning 1, drawing 3 and losing 1 across all competitions.

Speaking to Asaase Radio, Jerome Otchere has lamented on the sack of former Black Stars assistant trainer. “We can easily point fingers at Maxwell Konadu for Asante Kotoko’s poor league start but that is not the reason”

“The major problem of the club is how players are been bought and how they are manged when they come in”.

“We shouldn’t blame Maxwell Konadu at the point and if we don’t fix this issue of player recruitment and mnagement, the problem will still be there” he added.

“A new coach will definitely be named soon but if we don’t the fundamentals right, the club will still, ” he concluded.

Assistant coach Johnson Smith has been appointed as the interim coach to take over the team as they play as visitors to Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu on Sunday before hosting Al Hilal at the Accra Sports Stadium in their Caf Champions League preliminary games.

Kotoko have played 4 league matches, winning 1, drawing 2 and losing 1.

Asante Kotoko has declined to 11th on the standings of the Ghana Premier League.
