Report: Ghana’s Black Princesses Beat Uganda in World Cup Qualifer

The Black Princesses, Ghana’s female Under 20 national team, took a giant step towards qualifying to the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following an impressive 2-1 victory over their Ugandan counterpart in the first leg of final round of qualifiers.

Coach of the side, Ben Forkuo,  named number of the players who played against Zambia in the previous round in his starting line-up as he seek continue Ghana’s smooth run in the qualifiers.

Ampem Darkoa’s Abena Anoma Opoku was handed a starting role together with Hasaacas Ladies’ nimble footed attacker Doris Boaduwaa who has been a spectacular form in the 2021-22 Women’s Premier League.

The Princesses took the lead in the 20th mimute through striker Salamatu Abdulai and held until the first half ended 1-0 in their favour.

Back from the recess, Grace Anima struck Ghana’s second in the 48th minute when she curled in a beautiful freekick to give the Black Princesses a 2-0 lead.

The Ghanaians kept pushing for more goals to make the reverse leg an easy task.

However, the Ugandan captain Fauzia Najjemba pulled one back through a spot kick in the 83 as the full 90 minutes ended 1:2 advantaged Ghana.

The result takes Ghana on the brink of qualification with second leg set to take place in Accra in a week’s time.
