Champions Hearts of Oak registered their first win at the Accra Sports Stadium, beating Eleven Wonders 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Midfielder Salim Adams started the onslaught for the Phobians with a thunderous first half strike before striker Kofi Kodzi added a second half brace with Daniel Afriye completed the riot with a late finish.
Under pressure coach, Samuel Boadu once again went into the match without skipper Fatawu Mohammed while Isaac Mensah was dropped from the starting line up.
The visitors, Eleven Wonders also had goalkeeper Joseph Baah in goal with former Phobian Mohammed Tetteh Nortey leading the players in the absence of Simms Kwayie.
Hearts of Oak came quickly off their blocks in the opening moments of the game as Kofi Kordzi made a great run towards only for the striker to be brought down. The resulting freekicl was wasted by the Phobians.
The visitors were also given a free kick few minutes later but Tetteh Nortey’s powerful hit skied off the crossbar.
It didn’t take long for the Phonians to open tne scoring in the 19th minute kind through midfielder Salim Adams who unleashed a trademark thunderbolt beyond Wonders keeper Joseph Baah to the delight of the Accra Sports Stadium crowd.
Wonders came so close to getting the equaliser in the 30th minute but in-form forward Ibrahim Laar failed to beat goalkeeper Richmond Ayi in post for Hearts of Oak, who went into the break with their solitary lead.
Back from the break, Hearts of Oak doubled their lead after just two minutes after Kofi Kordzi headed home from a cross to give them a brighter start.
Ganiu Abass had Wonders’ first opportunity in the second department but his effort was stopped brilliantly by Richmond Ayi.
The Rainbow Club were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute after Afriyie Barnie was brought down in the area. Kofi Kordzi stepped up and completed his brace of the afternoon and seventh of the season.
Hearts of Oak completed the riots over their opponents after Afriyie Barnie tapped into the net from Ibrahim Salifu’s cross to hit the ‘Phobians’ fourth of the day.
Eleven Wonders awarded a penalty on the 84th minute. Captain Tetteh Nortey converted from the spot to pull one back.
It finished 4-1 after full time for the Hearts of Oak returns to winning ways with in a resounding fashion.
