Sky Blue FC have acquired midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe from Racing Louisville FC during the 2021 NWSL Draft. In exchange, Sky Blue sent its 13th overall pick to Racing and is sending $35,000 in allocation money.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jen back to Sky Blue,” said Head Coach Freya Coombe. “She is an exciting player to watch and I look forward to continuing our journey together.”
Cudjoe, 26, originally joined Sky Blue before the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup after impressing the coaches during 2020 open tryouts. The Ghanaian international appeared in all six Sky Blue matches, starting four, during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. During her 368 minutes in the Challenge Cup, Cudjoe completed 128 passes with an 80.5% completion rate.
“This is an opportunity we have pursued for some time, so we are over the moon for this trade,” said General Manager Alyse LaHue. “Jen is a special person and a special player who brings so much to the Club and we’re excited for her to continue her career with Sky Blue.”
Following her performance in the Challenge Cup, Cudjoe signed a multi-year deal with Sky Blue. She went on to start three matches during the Fall Series. In her three matches, she had an 80% success rate on her tackles and completed over 76% of her passes from the midfield.
Sky Blue FC begins the 2021 pre-season on February 1, with the NWSL Challenge Cup set to kick-off mid-April. The team is preparing for a 24-match season in 2021, starting in mid-May.
