Asante Kotoko’s new superstar midfielder Fabio Gama Dos Santos shares similar qualities to former Porcupine and Hearts of Oak legend Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor, says Bernard Dong Bortey.
As if to shame the pessimist who doubted the viability of the investment the club made to capture the Brazilian services, Gama played a crucial role in all the two goals against Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. Gama chipped in an assist for Kwame Opoku’s second goal in the 19th-minute and also came close to scoring in the 72nd minute from a free header.
The Brazilian midfielder, who arrived as a free agent few months ago, has now registered an assist in his first two games for the Porcupines and is aiming for better.
Nonetheless, Gama has already made a positive impression to life in Ghanaian football with Dong Bortey among his many admirers.
The former Premier League striker, who won four Ghana premier league titles with Hearts of Oak, has even compared the 28-year-old’s qualities to what Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor known as ‘the general’ exhibited at Hearts of Oak in the early 2000s.
His performance got many talking and was later nicknamed by the club as ‘El Carpentano’ which simply means – the fixer.
“Look the guy called Fabio Gama is a solid footballer, I watched him against Liberty professionals, his anticipations and passes are super. He just plays like Emmanuel Osei Kuffuor of our time,” he told Accra based radio outlet Hot FM.
Gama will hope to replicate his Monday performance at Sogakope on Sunday for Kotoko’s trip to WAFA in the Premier League.
