The Ghanaian import enjoyed one of his best outings as a goal keeper to deny Kaizer Chiefs a well deserved win against 10-man Maritzburg United to pick his first clean sheet in three league outings.

Richard Ofori, whose Maritzburg United side made a slow start to the season, lost their opening two league matches in the PSL heading into the clash with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Team of Choice then compounded their woes with a 15th minute red card to their center back at home to the fearsome Chiefs.

Without a win in the opening two matches themselves, Chiefs threw everything at the 10-man Maritzburg United only to meet an inspired Richard Ofori in post for the Team of Choice.

Series of goal bound saves were spiced with a last ditch save from a Siphiwe Shabalala’s pile driver.

Speaking to after the event pack 0-0 at home to Kaizer Chiefs , Richard Ofori reveled in the opening clean sheet and remain confident more will come.

“It was my first clean sheet of the season and I needed it badly to have a starting point. As a team, we made it clear that we have to stop conceding after the first two league matches and our plight was compounded by the early red card.

“After the red card we had to work more than 100 percent since we knew the pressure will come. I share the clean sheet with my colleagues since I didn’t fight alone. We fight together and celebrate together”, Richard Ofori told

On his personal ambitions, the former Wa All Stars FC remain hopeful of improving his last season’s heroics.

“Football is a team sport but I hope to record more clean sheets than I had last year and possibly get something concrete at the end of the season. Hopefully we grow together”, the Black Stars goal keeper added.

Richard Ofori stormed the South African Professional league on his debut season to earn nomination for the division’s best shot stopper of the season.
