The late Opoku Afriyie was a Unifier and giver – Oti akenteng

Former Ghana FA technical director Samuel Oti Akenteng has eulogized the late Opoku Afriyie, describing him as a unifier.

The late former Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Black Stars Striker, and Team Manager passed on at age 65, sending shocking waves into the football fraternity.

Shocked Oti Akenteng in a telephone interview with Fox FM in Kumasi Expressed his surprise at the news of the death of the late enforcer.

‘The late Opoku Afriyie was a unifier. I had problems with Samuel Osei Kufuor at the African Cup of Nations in 2002(Mali) and were not in talking terms. He called me and Kufuor and settled issues between us”.

Oti Akenteng, who was part of the technical team of the Black Stars at the AFCON in 2002 stressed how the late team manager intervened in the affairs of the playing body, and other members of the team.

Mr Oti Akenteng further expressed the benevolence nature of the late Opoku Afriyie, discribing him as a giver.

“He bought a car for the late Uncle Ben Kouffie. On the field he cannot be compared. Indeed Ghana football has lost a great footballer” Oti Akenteng added.

The late Opoku Afriyie, known as the Wizard was part of the glorious Black Stars team that won Ghana’s third AFCON trophy in Ghana.
