Arsenal’s deadline day signing Thomas Partey has been likened to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira following his performance in debut against Rapid Vienna on Thursday evening.
Arsenal came from a goal down to register a 2-1 victory over Vienna thanks to David Luiz’s header that cancer out Taxiarchis Fountas’ opener. Substitute and the club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted the winner for the Gunners.
BT Sport’s pundits Martin Keown and Owen Hargreaves were left gushing over Partey who was the most outstanding player during the match.
“Thomas Partey had one of the best debuts I’ve ever seen, honestly,” said Hargreaves after the game.
Keown aired his views at half time as he said, “I think you know when you see a player immediately add that touch of class, who wants to play and makes things happen. He’s so silky smooth, he’s oozed class and been everywhere.”
The Arsenal legend compared Partey’s movement when driving the ball forward and starting attacks to arguably the club’s greatest ever midfielder.
“This is where he looks like Vieira for me when he’s travelling with the ball and making things happen.”
Partey will have a chance of making another full debut in the Premier League when the north London side host Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
