The Super Falcons of Nigeria booked their place in next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup after securing their 11th AFCON final berth at the expense of an unlucky Indomitable Lioness at the Accra Sports stadium.
A pulsating 0-0 stalemate headed into the lottery of shootouts after another 30 minutes failed to separate the two power houses of African Women football in the first semi final.
The gallant and well oiled Indomitable Lioness side failed to convert their numerous chances and were made to pay for their costly missed chances with a painful 4-2 defeat from the 12-yards.
Series of goal bound moves were spurned by the dominant Cameroonians across the sizzling 120 minutes of breathtaking football only for Nigeria to defy the odds with another ticket to the grand finale of the continental showdown.
With only 2 defeats at the semi final stage of the African Women’s Cup of nation in the previous 12 editions, Nigeria were in no mood to lose a third game and duly booked a place in the final game from the spot kick.
The Super Falcons, led by Assisat Oshoala, barely stamped their authority in the game despite the array of household names paraded by the 10 times African Women champions.
Having defeated the Cameroonians in the last 2 editions heading into today’s semi final clash, the Super Falcons have Oshoala Assisat to thank for scoring the leading goal after a painful miss from the Lioness to make it 3-2.
Nigeria will meet the winner of the Banyana Banyana versus the Eaglets of Mali in the final game of the 2018 African Women’s cup of nation at the Accra Sports stadium on December 1, 2018.
