South Africa booked their place in 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations semi finals with a merciless 7-1 thrashing of Equatorial Guinea at the Cape Coast Sports stadium.
The Banyana Banyana massacred the 2 times African Women’s Cup of Nations in a one side goal feast led by a quick fire brace from Chrestinah Kgatlana in the 8-goal threat.
Heading into the game with a morale boosting win against the Super Falcons of Nigeria in match day one, the Banyana Banyana needed only 20 minutes to open the scoring thanks to spot kick conceded by the Equatorial leaky defense.
Linda Mothao kept her cool to slot home the opener for the Banyana Banyana before Nompumlelo Nyandi made it 2-0 in a space of 2 minutes.
Equatorial Guinea halved the deficit on the stroke of full time through Elena Obono to leave the scores at 2-1 in favor of the well oiled South African side.
Incensed by the consolation goal from Equatorial Guinea, South Africa responded with 5 second half goals including 3 goals in 8 minutes.
Rifloe Jane made it 3-1 for South Africa before Christinah Kgatlana scored twice in 3 minutes to add emphasis to the score line with almost half an hour still to play.
Amanda Mthandi extended the lead to 6-1 with a 77th minute strike before Jermaine Sephonsenwe completed the demolition exercise 2 minutes later.
The free scoring Banyana Banyana threatened to record double figures with avalanche of shots in the last few minutes but had to settle for the 7-1 thrashing of their opponents at the sparingly patronized game in Cape Coast.
