Head Coach for Asante Kotoko, Mariano Barreto has insisted that new striker Micheal Vinicius is not ready to play games despite the player scoring on his debut.
The Portuguese manager says he was forced to hand Vinicius a debut due to many absentees in the squad on the account of injuries and suspensions.
Vinicius joined the Reds last month and scored with just his second touch in Kotoko’s 4-0 win against Bechem United on Wednesday, April 7.
According to the gaffer, giving the giant target man some minutes doesn’t mean the player is physically ready to play games.
“Vinicius is not ready, we played him because we didn’t have many players,” Barreto said at the pre-match presser.
“He came in, he tried and he was at the right place at the right time and he scored the goal. This is good for anyone, especially if you score on your debut it makes you feel happy.” He added.
Barreto concluded that “We are happy for him because he is getting the motivation and confidence to work hard because in the next two weeks, he will have to get in a good physical condition to fight for the position.”
Asante Kotoko will play Berekum Chelsea on week 19 at Len Clay Stadium on Sunday, April 11.
