Ghana’s current FA Cup holders Kumasi Asante Kotoko are set to test their strength against Premier League side WAFA on Sunday, and the Sogakope based Academy Boys have vowed to give the Porcupines a match of their life time worthy of international standard.
After ending their 10-day camping in the western region of the country where they beat lower division side Unicon FC 2-0 before drawing 1-1 with Premier League side Medeama.
Kotoko had arranged to engage Togolese side Koroki Tchamba Metete on Sunday as part of their preparations for the CAF Confederations Cup campaign, but the 2018 Togo league winners pulled out later for internal reasons.
Kotoko have since arranged to host WAFA in place of Koroki on Sunday November 18 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium and the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League runners up have vowed to stretch CK Akunnor’s side to the latter thereby exposing any loopholes in their set up.
‘It will even exceed that international match they were expecting from Togo’, George Ofosu Hene, WAFA’s Operations Manager told Kumasi based FOX FM.
According to the WAFA official, despite lack of football activities in the domestic level, his side have been engaged in several international friendlies and others with local clubs and have a solid squad to give Kotoko the needed competition.
‘If we look at our team and our squad and everything, how we have prepared behind the scenes we feel on top.
“We have played international matches with clubs from Togo and a lot of matches, so we are well prepared, well focused and have a very solid team you will see a very compact team which I feel Kotoko will have to enhance themselves because it’s not going to be like an unprepared team, we are well prepared’, Ofosu Hene warned.
With the 2017/18 Zylofon Cash Premier league truncated due to the Anas Expose, Ghana has been unable to present clubs for the CAF Champions League for next season, leaving Asante Kotoko as the sole legitimate representative of the country in the continental competition, having won the previous season’s MTN FA Cup where they beat rivals Hearts of Oak 3-1 in October last year.
