Sulley Muntari’s wife Menaye Donkor says religion was never a factor prior to their arrangement into getting married.
The two (Menaye and Muntari) have been living as husband and wife for the past ten years after courting for four years.
Inter-religious marriages in Ghana have always been an issue of concern to many due to differences in faith.
However Menaye, a former beauty Queen reveals their faith and religion was never a hindrance in their relationship.
“No (His religion) was never a factor, when I met him we had lots of conversations and one of them was our religion, me being Christian and he a Muslim,” she narrated on the Delay show.
“And one thing he (Sulley) always say is we worship one God. I feel we always focus so much on religion to the extent that we forget about love and respect for one another. And what I had with Sulley was more like a respect for ourselves and not just religion. It was all about God fearing.
Menaye Donkor went on to rebuff claims of a sour relationship with Muntari’s mother Hajia Kande.
“She (Hajia Kande) is a lovely lady, I met her before we got married and we really got along well, I don’t know who said that but the talks and speculations are all over but at the end of the day what is important is the fact that the two being involved are okay,” she added.
She further explained why they decided not to have a flashy wedding.
“We did a traditional wedding ceremony and that was what my Dad wanted which is the normal way so Sulley’s family respected that. We never did a white wedding because we all didn’t want to at that moment. I wanted to but after the traditional wedding he was moving to another Club in England so relocating and all that was a whole lot and we didn’t want to add up plans of a white wedding.
“I think (white wedding) is just a party and not a wedding because if you have already registered your marriage with your wife then legally you are his wife. It is just a party and we have parties every day.”
Menaye Donkor and Sulley Muntari have two kids Jamal Krasie Muntari and Jamila Bema Muntari.
